Modinex’s Architectural Timber Projects

Yeppoon Lagoon

Location: Yeppoon, Queensland

Products Used: Newport Channel Cladding in Spotted Gum, Dressed All Round in Spotted Gum

The Yeppoon Lagoon has pride of place on Queensland’s sunny Central Coast. The structure has been sculpted from concrete and clad in timber, and its pools help to tie it into the nearby beaches.

For this project, we selected rich Spotted Gum claddings that will weather and fade in the sun, developing a silver patina that’s reminiscent of driftwood.

Gateway Shopping Centre

Location: Darwin, Northern Territory

Products Used: Custom Curve Plywood, Custom Architectural Tree Trunk and Tree Top

We designed a custom centrepiece for the Gateway Shopping Centre in Darwin. This design was inspired by natural tree trunks that rise into a canopy. To recreate this effect, we craft custom plywood profiles that create the impression of treetops high above the shop floor.

Always House

Location: Melbourne, Victoria

Products Used: Diamond Clad in Western Red Cedar, Custom Profile in Western Red Cedar

The Always House is an award-winning architectural design that features timber throughout. Outside, the home is clad in timber that’s reminiscent of driftwood, grounding the structure in its beachside location.

Inside, the home makes extensive use of timber battens to create a detailed ceiling. The effect is warm and inviting, and it’s used to draw the eye along main living spaces and increase the sense of scale.

Eden Health Retreat

Location: Currumbin Valley, Queensland

Products Used: Screenclad in Spotted Gum, Pencil Round Decking in Spotted Gum

Nestled in the pine forests of the Gold Coast, Eden Health Retreat is designed to connect its guests with the surrounding landscape. Native Spotted Gum timber was used throughout, increasing the natural variation in the design.

It’s tied together with charcoal-coloured steel that frames and enhances the design while allowing the timber to take pride of place.
